Giovanni Maduliย sent meย this picture of the Italian aircraft carrier Cavour (550)ย he took recently in Fincantieri’s shipyards inย Muggiano, nearย Genoa.ย ย The ship, thatย willย be delivered to the Marina Militare (Italian Navy) in 2008,ย has an overall length of 244 metersย and aย runwayย 180m x 14m with a 12ยฐ ski jump that will be able to serveย 8 V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing) aircraft such as AV-8B+ Harrierย or 12 helicopters, such as the EH-101, NH- 90 or SH-3D.ย The ship will be fully compatible with the F-35ย Joint Strike Fighterย VTOL variant and will most probablyย accomodate a mixed force composed by both aircraft and helos.
