The French rfi news website has reported that a Taiwanese pilot has lost his life in a crash whilst flying a French Air Force Mirage 2000.

The pilot had been training with the French Air Force from the Luxeuil-les-Bains air base when the jet crashed. Eye witnesses said that the jet was in flames as it crashed into woodland near houses.

The mayor of near by Froideconche, Henri Passard has been quoted as saying that it appears that the pilot did everything possible to avoid crashing into the houses near by.

The area has been cordoned off whilst authorities checked to see if the jet had arms on board, an investigation has been opened to find the cause of the crash.
