The following interesting video shows aircrew assigned to the 53rd Reconnaissance Squadron from Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi, fly a USAF WC-130J into storm Sandy off the East Coast of the United States on Oct. 29.
You can also see a satellite-tracked radiosonde being dropped by the plane to gather weather data at specific waypoints.
Known as the “Hurricane Hunters,” the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron mission is to provide surveillance of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the central Pacific Ocean for the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
