An interesting image taken during a formation flight of MiG-29 fighter jets over Erebuni in Yerevan, Armenia, near the Turkish border.

Even if the above image is just a preview of a video that will soon be released by renowned film make Artur Sarkisyan, it is interesting for at least two reasons.

First of all, it shows a formation of Mig-29 Fulcrum from the tail of one of the jets as it is invested by a salvo of flares. A unique view!

Second, the image was taken during a display of the Russian Fulcrums over the 3624th Air Base Erebuni, Armenia. The airfield is located less than 20 km (12.5 miles) from Turkey, a state with which Armenia has no diplomatic relations because of a number of historical and political issues.

Located at about 1,000 meters above mean sea level and surrounded by a mountain range, Erebuni is not only a base of the Armenian Air Force. The Russian Air Force is basing some 16 updated MiG-29SMTs at the expeditionary airbase that is also being strengthened, to host a squadron of Mil Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters and Mi-8 Hip transport choppers.
