115th Fighter Wing F-16 lost over Hiawatha National Forest, Michigan. Pilot Condition Unknown.
An F-16 Fighting Falcon from the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing from Truax Field Air National Guard Base outside Madison, Wisconsin, crashed Tuesday night at approximately 20.00 Local Time near Stevens Lake close to the border of Delta County in the center of Michigan’s upper peninsula. The condition of the pilot has not been reported.
Some unconfirmed reports suggested the aircraft may have been carrying live ammunition at the time of the crash.
According to additional reports, emergency crews and first responders were at the scene of the crash as of midnight on Tuesday, December 8.
The aircraft may have been taking part in a series of nighttime training missions scheduled for this week from Monday, December 7 until Thursday, December 10.
Reports about the training exercise were published last week in local media outlets, notifying local residents of the possibility of increased jet noise at night.
